4/27/21 Updates

Finally - the sailing season is here!

We have now finished two weeks of racing, including our first 3-race Sunday of the season. The breezes have been refreshing, the water is still cool, but the sailing has been fun.  If you do not yet have your boat in, you might want to think about doing so soon.

Thank you to all the members that have been pitching in and helping, both last year and this year. We are a 100% volunteer club - and the members have been great at volunteering and getting things done. With the pandemic slowly ebbing, we are getting closer to a more normal pattern of sailing and club life.

Nearly all the lifts are in, the mowers are at work, the kitchen crew has our kitchen fully open, the cleaners are coming through weekly, and boats are starting to show up on their lifts.

There are still some odds and ends to resolve (yes, including the road), and we have more work parties coming to start on other 'deferred maintenance' projects, but we are ready for all of CLSA's members to come and join us at the club on Sundays.

Here are some updates to keep you current:

  • Varmints:  The raccoons have taken a special liking to us this year. We patched the screens in the club house, but still had a mother raccoon deliver her spring family inside the women's room in the clubhouse. We think she was hiding inside when we patched up, and just stayed inside. Hopefully all of our furry residents have now been relocated. This serves as a reminder that we share our property with a number of 4-legged animals. It is best to keep doors closed when possible.
  • Camping:  We are fortunate to have a nice area for travel trailers and small campers to plug in. We now have more members who have an interest in camping than spaces available. To that end the board is considering a revised management plan so that everyone has access to this facility. For now, please observe the marked off spaces, and consider not leaving your camper in one of those spaces if you are not actively using it. And as stipulated in our rules, campers are not to be left plugged in to the club's power pedestals when not occupied.
  • Lawns:  Vehicles should not be driven on the lawns. Please use the designated parking areas.  Now that the season is underway, the only time vehicles should be on a lawn is if there is club maintenance being performed. If you need to drive to the waterfront for maintenance reasons, please use the road.
  • Kitchen:  Our kitchen is fully open for member use this year. Please clean up after yourself, and disinfect any areas you used with the spray that is available for that purpose. Our cleaning crew comes in every Monday and does a deep clean to prepare the building for the following week.
  • Locks and security: After you open any of our many combination locks, please immediately scramble the numbers. If there is no one else around, please lock the buildings and the gate. As club members we value our property and resources - we need to work together to keep them secure.
  • Driveway: The driveway is a concern for many of us. The board is procuring quotes from several vendors to address the deterioration. Look for action on this soon.
  • For Sale: We have abandoned the old "For Sale" page on our website.  Keeping up with that posting process was challenging, resulting in outdated information. Mike has created a forum dedicated to "For Sale" items. Members that have something to sell can create a post. Once the item has sold, please remove the posting. All postings will be deleted after 90 days. If your item is still available, you can re-post. This particular forum is visible to nonmembers, although they cannot post on it.
  • Web training library: Check out the training library on our webpage. There are some resources posted there to help refresh you on race courses and race management if you have a committee duty coming up soon. Another great resource to review prior to your next race duty are the documents listed under the Racing tab on our website.
In closing, I want to pass on an invitation from Melissa Clark, our park manager.  Melissa is on the Clinton County Regional Planning Committee's panel for the 2040 Strategic plan. She has extended an invitation for the members of CLSA to participate in the committee's work by getting involved and providing input. You do not need to be a resident of Clinton County - anyone who cares about the area is encouraged to provide feedback.

There will be an in-person workshop at the Cowan Lake Dance Pavilion on May 20th at 7:00 pm. Melissa has asked that we share this information and the flyer with our members. If you are interested in attending, please register on our website events page. You can read more about the event at the following flyer: Clinton County planning meeting flyer
